My Top 5 Picks for Spring

I’ve had a very busy week, so unfortunately no new nail designs today. So instead I thought I’d share with you guys my favourite polishes for this spring season.

Turquoise & Caicos by Essie

This soft, true turquoise is both feminine and professional, and it works well with many of the hot colour trends. This Essie colour has been featured numerous times in many blogs and magazines, and for good reason. I bought this one on a whim, wanting something light and classic, and it quickly turned into my favourite polish. It’s defninitely the best impulse buy I’ve made in a long time.

Air by Sally Hansen (Smooth and Perfect line)

I had been looking for a light blue since the fall, and last month I finally found this one. There are many awesome things about this polish. It goes great with many colours, so it’s awesome for doing nail art, and it looks particularly good with a matte top coat. It’s a nice, soft colour that can be fun and flirty or cool and classy. I didn’t think I’d wear it as much as I do, but I find myself constantly coming up with ideas for it. It’s also not too expensive, which is nice for a nailpolish addict like myself.

Hook and Line by China Glaze

This is by far my favourite of the Hunger Games nail polish line China Glaze put out this past march. It’s such a great neutral colour that goes with litterally everything. I personally LOVE it with a matte top coat, but it looks great shiney too. I also find China Glaze to be great for lasting and it doesn’t chip as easily as some high end brands. Definitely a fave!

A Million Sparkles by Nicole by OPI

As a girl who is easily distracted by shiny things, sparkles always catch my eye. A Million Sparkles entranced me completely into forgetting it’s $10 price tag. The blue, pink and silver sparkles make this polish super fun. It’s like a party on your nails! It always catches peoples eye. I like to pair it with Air or do a nail gradient.

Sorbet by Sally Hansen (Smooth and Perfect line)

I’ll admit it, as much as blues seem to be dominatiing my favourite colours this season, Coral is the definite winner for me. Clothes, shoes and nail polish, it’s the fastest way to my heart. This polish is light and airy, fun and fliry, soft and feminine. It’s the perfect match for your summer dress or your favourite tee.

My other favourite colour this season is coral. Especially this light one, Sorbet by Sally Hansen.

Ok, so this blue may be one of my favourite colours of spring. The gem I used was just something from a sticker set I found around my house.

5 Everyday Items That I Use(and one not photographed)
Since I didn’t get a chance to post last week, here’s a bonus. A lot of my friends ask how I do the fancy stuff with my nails. I’m not a professional, I don’t have any fancy tools. You just need to be creative with stuff you can find around the house! So here’s my list of everyday items that I use on a regular basis to do my nail art.
1. Scotch Tape is awesome for making straight lines. It’s not soooo sticky that you have to wait hours upon hours for your base coat to dry completely (you do have to wait, just not as long). I use it to make stripes, triangles, tips, half-moons, anything! If you don’t have a steady hand to make nice lines, Scotch tape is your best friend!
2. Bobby Pins! If you’ve seen video tutorials on youtube, they always talk about using their “dotting tool”. Well, I’m no professional, so obviously, I don’t have one. However, (most) bobby pins have these convenient round edges that are just right for making dots!. Just bend them into a straight-ish line and you’ve got your very own, very cheap, homemade dotting tool!
3. Toothpicks, like the bobby pins, are a great homemade replacement for a dotting tool. They don’t make large dots, but they’re awesome for small details. They’re also extremely handy for grabbing large glitter pieces for nail polishes so you can arrange them to make pretty patterns!
4. Post-it Notes are what I use to put pools of polish on when doing doting, detailing or any art I can’t do using my nail brush. I use post-its because they’re small, so they don’t take up room, but they’re big enough to use over and over again. And once you’ve filled up a page, you just peel it off for the next one. Easy peasy!
5. Broken Pen Shell. For my splatter design, I needed something small that I could use in order to make the polish spray out. Since I didn’t have any tiny straws, I thought I wasn’t going be able to do it, until I found this old, broken, gel pen. It was the perfect size! And we all have those things sitting around, so why not?
Bonus: Paint Brushesobviously! I’m an art girl, so I had some paint brushes laying around. Paint brushes, with a thin tip, are great for doing actual artwork on your nails (like berries, logos, faces). If you don’t have any at home, you can get a cheap set from any dollar store. And they always come in handy for other things. Best buck you’ll ever spend ;)
